Notes
Here is another example of Italian pipe carvers’ skill, ability and creativity. Salvatore Amorelli began making pipes in his Sicily in 1982 and his current production is around to 4,000 pieces per year.
Briar comes from South of Italy (Sicily, Calabria and Eolie Islands) and is seasoned in open air for at least 5 years to attain complete drying.
Amorelli made special pipes with precious metal adornments that were personally delivered to such grand Pooh-Bahs as Papa Giovanni Paolo II and President Bill Clinton. Church and State sharing a bowl? Hmmm ...
Amorelli’s logo is represented by an 18 carat gold bar divided into two sections, half on the stem and half on the mouthpiece. The perfect alignment of such sections produces a gold bar that confirms that the bit has been properly fitted. Rarely does a logo serve such a useful purpose.
The offering comes in the second grade of his production, ** (the top is *****), which is reserved to pipes with perfect straight grain.
This pipe has a regular and consistent straight grain pattern circumventing the bowl and very thick walls.
It stay on its own and the size is comparable to that of a large Dunhill Group 6/ODA.
