It is an example of Mastro
de Paja’s early carving style of this famous brand when M° Guidi imprinted
his personal design. In this case he offers a personal interpretation on
the classic Bulldog’s theme.
As usual, pipe was carved
with particular attention to the centre of the briar, which corresponds
to the bottom of the bowl, allowing an appreciable straight grain around
the very thick walls.
This pipe may interest both
advanced Mastro’s Collectors as well as enthusiasts of large pipes. The
tobacco chamber, in which only British mixtures were smoked, has thick
walls and a good capacity and is very well suited for a long and pleasant
smoke.
It’s really a great pipe
belonging to a brand that has not been well known; notwithstanding my collecting
enthusiasm for Dunhill and Castello, I often smoke my preferred British
mixtures in my old large Mastros, with great appreciation.
