I believe that this shape
may be considered the perfect smoking machine. Its squat and large bowl
permits a good combustion of the burning tobacco, avoiding the excess of
humidity that often occurs during smoking.
Definitely, it’s a great pipe
perfectly suited for an easy smoke every time. The briar presents the most
classic British cross grain cut leaving appreciable bird’s eye on both
sides of the bowl.
No other words are necessary
to describe this shape except to underline that the pipe offered is perfect
in every respect and seems as if it were made yesterday instead of more
than 30 years ago.
The only small issue arises from
nomenclature which is a tad weak in some sections, even if perfectly readable,
better with a magnifier. Oddly, the digit for the year of manufacturing
was not stamped, however on basis of type used, I’m sure it was made in
1974 or 1975.
It’s not coincidental that Dunhill
in recent years introduced its second from the top Amber Root finish and
that its premier finish, the Root briar, is very scarce and becoming more
so with each passing day.
