The Group 4 saddled pot is
another favourite shape of which I own many samples, largely because its
generous bowl and lightness.
To me, this pipe is best described
by a word in my native Italian language - “freschezza” - or “freshness”
in English.
It has a large bowl with very
thick walls, is quite light and is therefore perfectly suited for a long
untiring smoke and notwithstanding the round bottom, it stands on its own.
Briar is gorgeous with very dense, cross-graining.
No other words are necessary
to describe this shape except to evidence that its perfect in every respect
notwithstanding has almost 40 years of age.
