Friends,
collectors, and pipe smokers: lend me your eyes. Once in a blue moon I
offer unsmoked Castellos on this website and this is one of those times.
But
no, I not merely offering an unsmoked Castello. This is a rare collector’s
edition (no longer available) consisting of an S. T. Dupont Ligne 2 Maduro
pipe lighter and a Castello #15 pipe with a commemorative gold band engraved
with “D 130° Anniversario” with a small Castello logo after the “D”.
This
once-in-a-lifetime set is the result of a special joint effort between
two such prestigious brands as Castello and Dupont. This is a Limited Edition
of 130 sets celebrating S.T. Dupont’s 130th Anniversary. Encased in an
exclusive hand-tooled black leather box with both brands logos emblazoned
on the cover, the presentation is a work of art by itself! Both the lighter
and the pipe are stamped with a serial number “05 –130”.
Considering
that S.T. Dupont and Castello have retained the lowest numbered sets, I
estimate that this set is probably one of the lowest serial numbers available
in the market. Incidentally, this pipe is graded “Fiammata” and very few
of the 130 pipes received this high grading.
The
set also includes all of the original papers and documentation.
The
pipe, which can be sized like a Dunhill large group 5, has a continuous
straight grain circumventing the bowl and along the stem; the rim and bottom
of the bowl displays gorgeous bird’s eye patterning. As last notation,
it stands on its own.
The
Dupont lighter is mint and has never been used.
It’s
a “must have” both for Dupont’s and Castello’s advanced collectors!
